Anthropic's Investors Target a $2 Trillion October IPO — the Largest in History
Backers expect Anthropic to list as soon as October at $2 trillion or more, with annualized revenue projected to hit $100–120 billion by year-end — a debut that would give public markets their first real price on the AI trade.
The largest initial public offering in history could happen this October. According to a Quartz report published August 13, half a dozen of Anthropic’s backers expect the Claude maker to go public in October at a valuation of $2 trillion or more — a figure that would shatter every IPO record on the books and instantly place the five-year-old company among the most valuable corporations on Earth.
The report’s most eye-popping detail is the revenue projection behind that number: Anthropic’s investors expect the company’s annualized revenue to land between $100 billion and $120 billion by the end of 2026 — more than ten times its level at the start of the year. Even by the standards of the fastest-scaling software companies ever, that is a trajectory without precedent.
From $9 billion to $47 billion in five months
Anthropic’s revenue curve has gone fully vertical. The company ended 2024 at roughly $1 billion in annualized revenue. It closed 2025 at about $9 billion. By mid-February 2026, that figure had reached $14 billion, and by late May — per the company’s Series H announcement — it had crossed $47 billion in run-rate revenue. More recent estimates cited by Forbes and Quartz put the current figure around $30 billion and climbing, with the year-end target of $100–120 billion reflecting continued enterprise acceleration through the second half.
A significant share of that growth is coming from Claude Code, Anthropic’s agentic coding product. Forbes reports that Claude Code had already passed a $2.5 billion revenue run rate — more than double where it began 2026 — and that was before the broader agent platform push took hold. Enterprise adoption, not consumer subscriptions, is the engine: Anthropic has become the default choice for a large cohort of developers and enterprises building agentic workflows on top of its API.
The pre-IPO stack: $65 billion raised, $965 billion marked
The road to a $2 trillion IPO has been paved with private capital. On May 28, 2026, TechCrunch reported that Anthropic closed a $65 billion Series H round at a $965 billion post-money valuation — what is widely expected to be the company’s final private round before listing. That figure alone represented a 733% climb from earlier marks, and secondary-market interest soon pushed the implied valuation past $1 trillion, per Forbes.
The company confidentially filed initial IPO paperwork with the SEC on June 1, 2026, with Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, and Morgan Stanley in early discussions for lead roles on a listing that could reportedly raise more than $60 billion in fresh capital. By July, CNBC reported that bankers were lining up investor meetings ahead of a debut as soon as October. A Nasdaq listing has been the consistently rumored destination.
Why $2 trillion — and why now
The bull case rests on the intersection of three forces. First, raw growth: at $100+ billion in projected annualized revenue, the implied multiple at $2 trillion is roughly 20x revenue — rich by traditional software standards, but not unreasonable for a company growing several hundred percent per year. Jim Cramer, among others, has argued that surging revenue justifies the record valuation.
Second, scarcity. Public investors currently have no direct way to own the frontier-model layer of the AI boom. Nvidia, Microsoft, and the hyperscalers are proxies; Anthropic would be the real thing. A $2 trillion float would give Wall Street its first public price on the AI trade, testing private valuations against real markets — the explicit framing of Forbes’ coverage.
Third, the race with OpenAI. Anthropic’s confidential filing was widely read as a move to beat its chief rival to the public markets. OpenAI has been preparing its own confidential draft filing, and the competition to list first — and at the higher multiple — has become a subplot of the AI boom’s endgame. For Anthropic’s investors, including Google and Amazon, an October window ahead of any OpenAI debut maximizes scarcity value.
The skeptics’ case
Not everyone is sold. A second Forbes piece, published August 14, framed the IPO as putting “the AI boom to its biggest test yet.” At $2 trillion, Anthropic would debut worth more than most Dow components, despite burning substantial capital on compute. The company’s growth is also entangled with export-control turbulence: TechTimes noted that an export control issue froze some June revenue and remains active — a reminder that geopolitics can dent even the steepest revenue curves.
There are also open questions about concentration. Anthropic’s revenue is heavily weighted toward API and developer usage, which is powerful while it lasts but historically more volatile than seat-based enterprise software. And the year-end $100–120 billion projection comes from investors, not from audited financials — the S-1, when it goes public, will be the first hard look.
What to watch
The timeline from here: Anthropic’s confidential S-1 can flip public as early as September, triggering the traditional roadshow. A listing in late October would land the debut squarely in the spotlight of Q3 earnings season, forcing every AI-proxy stock to be re-priced against the first pure frontier-model asset in public markets.
For the record books: Saudi Aramco’s $29.4 billion IPO in 2019 remains the largest ever. Anthropic’s offering could raise more than double that — and debut at a valuation that took Apple forty-two years to reach, achieved by a company founded in 2021.
Whether October’s debut marks the crowning of the AI era or the top of its most ambitious bubble, one thing is certain: the market is about to get a price.
